Just installed Gutsy; new problems...

So I just did a new install of Gutsy (next to Feisty) after posting about having some issues with my Attansic network interface (the MAC was changing randomly). I installed Gutsy which fixed that problem, but now I've got a few new problems:

1. It seems like my network interface "cuts out" randomly. For example, Pidgin seems to randomly disconnect all accounts and then is forced to re-connect them. Also, when I'm on a Windows box browsing SMB shares exported by the Gutsy box, the Windows box will hang looking for the share because it goes offline. I've checked my syslog and there's no evidence that anything is happening. Any ideas why the network connection would be intermittent like that? Is this an issue with the network hardware? For what it's worth, this is on an Asus P5K board.

2. There are now operations which seem to stall randomly in Gnome. For example, whenever I go to lock my screen by going to System > Quit, there is like a 30-second delay where the system hangs. Clicking on anything has no effect. Similarly, sometimes when trying to launch a Nautilus browser, there is a noticably longer delay before anything pops up. This didn't happen in Feisty.

Any help with either (unrelated?) issue would be greatly appreciated!

Try enabling more verbose kernel logging output to see if anything shows up.

Code:

# echo 8 > /proc/sys/kernel/printk
