Java 5->6 Help!
Okay, I havn't posted in a while, but I need help. I installed java 1.5 on ubuntu and it worked. Apps worked like limewire and stuff. I upgraded to 1.6 and all of a sudden that apps don't work. I perform java -version and it reports that I'm back to the default 1.4.2! I have tried uninstalling 1.5 and 1.6, but that doesn't work. tried reinstalling, that doesn't work. I can't get my limewire working, and other apps that do work under 1.4.2 like openoffice they are extremely low. Anybody find a solution or have the same prob?

I think the problem is the java apps are not finding your java install. I added a symlink in /usr/bin called java pointing to the java installation. Here is what it looks like.
Code:
cd /usr/bin/
root /usr/bin 09:53:37 > file java
java: symbolic link to `/usr/java/jre1.5.0_06/bin/java'
The path you installed java in is most likely different to mine. Just make a symlink /usr/bin/java pointing to your java install. Try it again...

Yes, I found the solution. Thanks, but your advice didn't work. The new java has different foldernames, and I didn't know where the hell everything was. So I used this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=346938 .
Now I got 1.6.0 (ver6)! Great!
