Umm, well. Why not allow Ubuntu auto-partition your hard drive. Have never tried to install linux on a Fat32 partition. Suppose it's possible but not real popular.

No Brian you read me wrong. They ARE linux ext3 partitions. They were FAT32 before i grabbed them from Windows and formatted. As for auto partitioning, i'm not too comfortable with that idea coz ive lost Windows partitions before and i don't want to take the risk.

Any ideas here??

Have never tried to dual boot Unbuntu but have with Redhat and Suse. I guess it would all be just about the same.

Well, the ISO could be bad which would require you to download and burn again. Other than that. Have you booted off the cd-rom (Not using the live cd but using the text install) and proceeded with an installation from there.

I just read that Dapper Beta 2 just came out a couple of days ago becasue the beta 1 code possessed a lot of bugs regarding the installer.

See link:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ub...il/000072.html

Which could explain some of the problems that you are having. Personally, have not had a single issue wit hthe beta 1 cd.

I had similar concerns experimenting with Ubuntu but my dual boot is SuSE and I wanted both. What I found was that the steps were very user friendly and the last step presents with a detailed partition map of what it will use. If its not quite write, backup and change it some more. You can always abort on the last step if you're not comfortable.
