Issue with mouse

Back in 2004 I switched to linux. My first distro was Slackware and my brother was sitting beside me as I was trying to figure out how the hell to get in the windowing environment. I eventually did after he left for the evening. Now in 2007 I finally convinced him, or maybe vista did, that Linux was better than windows. We installed Ubuntu on his HP Pavillion DV9000 laptop. One of the few issues he had was the functionality of his mouse. It is a a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Mouse 6000 but with the install it is functioning as a 2 button mouse with a scroll wheel. The mouse has two buttons on top, one on the left hand side and a scroll wheel. How would we configure this mouse to work properly? Thank you.

Try this: http://linuxreviews.org/howtos/xfree/mouse/

If you're using X11 as opposed to xfree I doubt it'll make any difference.

I should adopt the signature of another LQ poster and mention B-A-C-K-U-P regarding the config files before altering in the LARGE PRINT at the bottom of this posting. Just for insurance of course. Lykke til!
