Issue starting x server on first time booting

Well, I tried posting about this on the official forums but those are pretty much dead and the one guy who replied to my thread (so far) was a moron trying to increase his post count... buy anyway here is my problem:

I finished the ubuntu installation, when it got to the part where it asked for the resolutions my monitor can handle, I chose the ones it could. Now I try to boot the system it give me this error:

(Note: the first time I used hoary and when it finished the screen was displaced and multicolorful.)

Quote:
I cannot start the x server (your graphical interface). it is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the x server output to diagnose the problem?
I select yes, then it displays the information:

Quote:
This is a pre-release version of XFree86 and blah blah blah...

XFree86 Version 4.3.0.1 (Ubuntu 4.3.0.dfsg.1-6ubuntu25 20041018053950 root@macaroni.warthogs.hdb.com)
Release Date: 15 August 2003
...and more info which I assume is useless (ask me if you need to see it all; in the meantime, I'm lazy).

I'm running on an AMD64 and installing the 32 bit version. I also have an nVidia card. I'm not sure if my specs are effecting this, maybe they are if no one else has had this problem. Anyway, thanks in advance.

Ok, we know your version of the x Server, but it does not help us in any way. we need the full error message, and do not just post the no screens found or similar, it will not help.

Try to boot from a livecd, www.slax.org. (180 MB iso, but all you need to boot linux.)

copy the xinitrc (path below) into your home folder, rename it to .xinitrc - done in most cases.
I think you should find it in:
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/xinitrc
