Is Ultimate Edition still an active Distro?

Wanted to get some info regarding Ultimate Edition 2.7 and see that the webpage is not active (http://ultimateedition.info) at the moment. Hostgator just says that the website is experiencing difficulties.

I checked the website a couple of times today (8/21/10) and see that it's down.

Here's the URL I was using: http://ultimateedition.info

Anyway, if the project is dead, I'm open to any suggestions regarding distros with a lot of eye candy.

Thanks
Dan

How long has the site been down? If you google: ubuntu ultimate, the first link says:
Code:
Ultimate Edition
I have already uploaded a alpha 1 of Ultimate Edition 2.8 x64 (built off Ubuntu Maverick Meercat 10.10), it will be released to admin, mods and beta testers ...
ultimateedition.info/ - Cached - Similar
And the second:
Code:
Ultimate Edition 2.6 | Ultimate Edition
What is Ultimate Edition 2.6? Ultimate Edition was built off Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04, I am going to start off with some of the finer points. ...
ultimateedition.info/ultimate-edition/ultimate-edition-2-6/ - Cached
However, those links are not currently reachable since (as you stated) the site is down.
Anyway, from those google links it looks like Ultimate is still being maintained. They have a stable release based on Lucid 10.04, and a development build based on the still under development Ubuntu Maverick 10.10. This is about as current as you can get when tracking Ubuntu.
Perhaps try back in a few days.

Ubuntu itself can be tweaked to deliver as much eye candy as you would ever want. There is of course also linux Mint, which includes a lot of the proprietary stuff that it's parent Ubuntu leaves out.
Note that anything Mint or Ultimate can do, Ubuntu can also do.

WOW. Thanks for the info. I understand that Ultimate Editioon is just Ubuntu with a lot of teaks. It was just nice installing it and having everything already done.

On the other hand, I just installed Ubuntu 10.4.1 and love it. The default theme/icon set is great. I was expecting another brown desktop.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to reply to my question. I installed Linux Mint on my netbook (Gateway lt2104u) and it works almost perfectly. All hardware detected with out issue. Only problem I see is that the distro is improperly reading how much charge I have left on the battery.

Again, thanks
Dan

If you like to play around with different themes, you can find lots them here:
http://gnome-look.org/ Note that the quality of those themes can vary. Some of them work better in practice than others.

Ultimate Linux 2.7

I have had no luck with this. I have tried logging onto the Ultimate Edition forum, but get a message "Webmaster please contact support@hostgator.com" I have noticed my system is not updating properly as it has no access to the UE 2.7 repositories. I searched for over a year to find the distro that I felt most at home with, and now it seems that it is no longer available. Can anyone give info on how to contact them please?
