Installing Ubuntu on Tablet (1 USB and touch input only)
 

Hi,
I have a preinstalled windows 8.1 tablet with only touch input (so input does not work when accessing the bios), It has only one USB and one MicroSD card

The MicroSD does not show up in the bios (so I cannot boot from it)
The USB pen drive shows up in the bios so I can boot from it (but I need the USB port to control the bios by attaching my keyboard to it, hence cannot use it for my pen drive)
I want to know if there is someway for me to install Ubuntu on it (may be via USB hub so that I can attach my keyboard and the USB pen drive)

Secure boot is disabled.

I am using an iBall i701 Tablet (Intel Atom+1GB RAM+16GB SSD)

Yep external powered usb hub is the way to go. With external keyboard and mouse.
I run 2 touchscreen laptops.
Being able to boot from usb in bios is a must.

Use RUFUS to make the bootable Ubuntu usb drive using Windows 8.1 on your tablet. My advise. If your tablet is usb bootable, make a persistent usb and run linux off the usb drive. Keep the 8.1 on the internal tablet drive. Best of both worlds then till you get used to using a linux distro on that tablet.

There is no windows on my touchscreen gear. Because I have a dedicated Windows Laptop for tuning motorcycles.

does it have to be an external powered hub?
Could be an external regular hub?

I just said powered hub to keep strain off the phone/tablet/pad.

If you want to chance it. It is your gear so up to you.

I got my self a regular hub, the bios detects both my pen drives attached to it.

But I can not boot from them,
My secure boot is disabled.

When I choose the option to override my boot and boot from my UEFI-Sony disk drive, it brings me back to the bios page

Why does it detect my device to be a UEFI-sony device
Does it require some UEFI compliant USB device or a UEFI compliant OS ( I am trying to boot Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS AMD64 version)

Sorry, I don't know your bios setup on your gear. That should be covered though in India where your tablet is made from. Being in the USA. These units are not common here.

Thanks everyone....I did figure it out
It uses a 32-bit uefi (though atom is 64bit) this is done so that they can install windows 8.1/10 32-bit version (it ships with 32-bit uefi support and windows 64-bit equivalent ships with 64-bit uefi support only, they dont have mix mode support).
To fix this:-

Install Ubuntu or which ever linux you want
Install Debian 8.2 (multi arch, this supports mix mode UEFI) and will install 32-bit grub with ubuntu's entry in it
reboot...choose ubuntu from the grub menu and you are on your way...
