Installing .sh scripts on HOARY

If this problem has already been discussed don't let me waste your time, just redirect me. I'm new to linux and ANY help would be greatly appreciated. I've been trying to install the Intel FORTRAN Compiler for a research project and have had no success. I have the HOARY version of Ubuntu installed. When I try to execute the install.sh, extracted from the tar.gz, a window opens and quickly closes. I have a feeling that the commands which the script file require are not being made available by Ubuntu. Anyone have a clue what the hell is going on?

open up a terminal, then navigate to install.sh, then run:
Code:
./install.sh
if that doesn't work, run.
Code:
chmod +x install.sh && ./install.sh
post any errors or warnings that occur.

RPM is not installed or not functioning correctly

This is the response that I get from running the install.sh. I'm sure that RPM is installed but as for whether it is working properly, I guess that it's not. Maybe someone can help me troubleshoot this problem. Regardless much thanks Gay RObOt. By the way, can you explain
Code:
chmod +x install.sh && ./install.sh
? I wanna understand the commands so that I can become self sufficient.

Code:
chmod +x install.sh
the command chmod changes the permission of the file (man chmod) and chmod +x install.sh makes the script executable

Code:
./install.sh
the ./ executes anything after it , you could also execute it by typing

Code:
sh install.sh
