Installing SCIM in Ubuntu

Hi,

can somebody give me a hint about how to install SCIM on Ubuntu?

I am trying to install SCIM (scim-1.4.5) on Ubuntu 6.10.

I downloaded the source, and what I had in mind is:

tar xjvf skim-x.y.z.bz2
cd skim-x.y.z
./configure
make
make install

However, when I input

./configure

I get an error:

configure: error: C compiler can not create executables

Does somebody know why is this happening? I'm merely following the SCIM website instructions, so have no idea what went wrong.

Alternatively, I was thinking of using apt-get, but I am new to Linux so am not familiar with the process... can somebody help?

hello .....sudo apt-get install scim should do the trick. This method should be much easier than compiling

Good luck! edit: that's "sudo apt-get install scim" without the quotes
