Installing Nvidia Drivers on Kubuntu 14.04
I had this posted in the "hardware" section but one of the replies stated I should post my question in the "Ubuntu" section.
Look at this screenshot: https://imageshack.com/i/p85Vfnfhp Do you see all those Nvidia drivers? I've tried each one and the result, upon rebooting, was a blank black screen. Every time. WTF is happening? The only exception is that last one: using xorg x server (it is already installed) I downloaded and installed from both Synaptic and the "Additional Drivers" function. The screenshot I posted is from the "Additional Drivers" function. All I want to do is get my gpu recognized so I can use it in a distributed computing project. This is my 2nd computer and I intend to dedicate it just to that purpose. Why won't those drivers work and what must I do to make them work? My "box" consists of: - 64 bit Kubuntu 14.04 - AMD A6-7400k - Nvidia GTS 250 (g92 chip) - 4 gb ddr3 system ram |
If the drivers provided by the distro aren't working out for you then the first thing I would do is fall back to downloading straight from the vendor. Have you tried that?

I was told not to download straight from nvidia because it could fark my system if the kernal changes, etc. So, no I haven't done so.
Is it possible I must alter some default setting or configuration? All I want to do with the GPU is use it for distributed computing projects. |
Got it to work installing "nvidia-modprobe".
