Installing ndiswrapper

I just installed Ubuntu 5.10 in my computer.

I want to get my wireless card to work. But the problem is, I do not have internet as of now. So apt-get is not going to work.

I know my wireless card works (atleast it is in the Ndiswrapper HCL Wiki list) so that should not be a problem.

I don't think Ubuntu ships with nDiswrapper, does it? If so, how do I get it?

Basically, I am looking to install ndiswrapper on my computer that has no internet access.

Any suggestions?

Regards, hari

ndiswrapper-utils is in the repositories, but i am unable to remember if ndiswrapper ships with ubuntu. i want to say no. in which case, the best thing for you to do is find some way to hook up to a wired network and then use apt. if i remember correctly, one needs to be connected to the internet in order for ubuntu to install so that it can download all the files it needs to...

anyway, to find out for sure if ubuntu ships with ndiswrapper, just type "sudo ndiswrapper -l" in a terminal and see what happens.

well seeing as you're able to post on here (and hence have internet access somewhere else), why not download the source tar.gz off of the website and transfer it by disk, flash media, etc. then compile it manually (make & make install).

THAT ISN'T RIGHT! I tried doing that and it still won't work! iwconfig doesn't show it, ifconfig doens't show it.. I don't get it.

you need the drivers from the windows install Cd as well..you have to actually follow the installation instructions for ndiswrapper (http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/m...p/Installation)

Do you really think I wouldn't do that?

ndiswrapper -l brings by device up!! ifconfig shows wlan0, but iwconfig does not.
