Installing Lubuntu on a USB stick

Hello, I have a USB 3.0 stick on which I want to install Lubuntu 20.04 and be able to use it on any PC or Laptop. The flash drive is 128 GB. Are there any downsides to this and does it damage the USB drive in some way?

you could say having a live OS on a usb that has persistence is an approach to have a distro installed on a usb.

With that kind of size usb i would try ventoy https://ventoy.net/en/index.html in which you can have several
distro iso to bot from. Some also work with persistence

What do you mean by persistence? I want to store files and install apps, so it's not the same as live USB.

I've installed many a distro on a USB stick, using the stick the same way I would use a hard drive. Never ran into a problem.
