Installing KDE on Ubuntu
I saw a lot of people mad over this idea. Personally I like variety. So I took a risk and did _just_ the following.
"apt-get install kde"
(waited for 1+hrs for download and install)
logged out, booted straight into KDE.
Life is good.
ps. KDE is so player.

I'm glad your happy with KDE and Ubuntu! I find KDE more pleasant then Gnome though it still has some annoyances like application duplication like Kuickshow, KView, Gwenview and having a description of a program then the name in brackets like
Media Player (Kaffeine). Overall KDE is very beautiful and the little annoyances will be fixed in KDE4.

I did that earlier, works nicely. This distro is turning out far better for me than most others. The only hitch is, the system will lockup if I try to use the kde screensavers, I have to go to the bottom of the list and choose "xscreensaver" then click setup and do it from there. Otherwise, I haven't hit any speed bumps.

This isn't a bug in KDE, just an option. Go to the control panel in KDE and then click on Desktop, then panels. You can change from name and description in the KMenu section.

In a terminal type sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list then add
##Kubuntu
deb http://kubuntu.org/hoary-kde342/ hoary-updates main
deb-src http://kubuntu.org/hoary-kde342/ hoary-updates main
save. Then open a terminal and run apt-get update or open Synaptic and click Reload.
Now you can look through Synaptic for KDE select it and choose install. Poof you now have the choice of Gnome or KDE at login under Session.
