installing java problems


i know this has been asked before, and ive looked at other post but none of them really helped me. one post said to just uncomment the backports in the scource.list then search for j2re. but my backports are enabled and the package manager doesnt find anything. do i have something wrong? im using Kubuntu

oh and while im here, is there a way i can get the navigation panel to stay open in konqueror? everytime i open konqueror have to reopen the nav panel.
