Installing gnucash

Hi,

Linux is completely new to me but I am trying the learn the system. Finally after trying a number of distributions I found my old 333mhz machine would run Ubuntu. One program I am using on 'that other' operating system is quicken and I read that gnucash is similar to it so I downloaded it. However, when I go to install it . . . it took me a couple days to figure that one out! It told me I needed support programs that my system didn't and couldn't have. What am I doing wrong . . . or what information to you need in order to tell me what I am doing wrong?

:newbie:

Tim

Did you follow the second link "How to add additional repositories"?

oops . . . I guess I didn't see that one! I follow the steps and now have it working on my other machine. Thank you so much for helping a total NEWBIE . . . there is so much to learn and I am having a ball trying to figure it all out. Thanks again, Tim

That ubuntu guide I linked to is very helpful in setting up Ubuntu as a desktop. Also google for "Automatix" which is a collection of scripts someone wrote to help do things like install java, flash, firefox 1.5, etc...

What about installing gnucash in SUSE? Is it the same as Ubuntu?

hmm, I have Ubuntu on one computer and Suse on another. I think in Ubuntu it Breeze it is under add programs. I found it easy to set up, with help from members here, very easy and it is a great little program. I haven't found a way to get it to import qif files that I download from the bank but it had no problem finding and installing a file I exported from Quicken. I hope you get it up and running.

NO offense. I appreciate you trying to help but switching to Ubuntu is not what I had in mind.
