Installing build-essential with no cd

Is it possible to install build essential for ubuntu with out the core files from the cd. I would rather not re-download the ubuntu distro just to reinstall build essential.

I downloaded "build-essential_11.3ubuntu1_i386.deb " and attempted to install it , the installer asked for the ubuntu cd.

I also did the build essential apt get. Again I was asked for the cd.

Is it possible to install this package without the cd?

Thank you in advance.

"build-essential_11.3ubuntu1_i386.deb" is basically
a text file, a list of packages.
Look into it with 'dpkg -x NewFolder' (You will need
a "NewFolder" to unpack into.)

The main packages listed are : libc6-dev, gcc, g++,
make, dpkg-dev .

If you have no cd (DVD) just uncomment cd in Synaptic
> Settings > Repositories
(or in /etc/apt/sources.list)

Regards
