Installing ATI 9600 Video drivers on Ubuntu

I am a Linux Very newbee. I have an ATI 9600 video card. I downloaded the drivers from https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206...ler-8.29.6.run I just installed an ATI Radeon graphics card so that I can use the the Ubuntu xserver. 1. I logged in as root. 2. Typed in SH ati-driver-installer-8.29.6.run and pressed enter. 3. After walking through the installation ... Running a x86 machine with glibc-2.1. Debian GNU/Linux --> Selected OK 4. Selected "Installation Driver 8.29.6 on X.org 6.8.x" --> Selected OK OK 5. Running a x86 machine with glibc-2.1. Debian GNU/Linux --> Selected OK 6. Agreed w/the S/W license agreement 7. Selected the recommended (default) installation --> Selected OK 8. Drivers begin to install. 9. Would you like to launch a web browser ? --> Select No 10. There were errors during installation. Errors are: Kernel Module : Trying to install a precompiled kernel module Kernel module : Precompile kernel module version mismatch Error Kernel module : No kernel module build environment - please consult readme. Please help. How do I install these drivers ? so that I can run xserver. I am running on a Dell GX270. The ATI 9600 radeon card came with the dell. Thanks. |
