Installing ATI 9600 Video drivers on Ubuntu

:confused:
I am a Linux Very newbee.

I have an ATI 9600 video card. I downloaded the drivers from https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206...ler-8.29.6.run

I just installed an ATI Radeon graphics card so that I can use the the Ubuntu xserver.
1. I logged in as root.
2. Typed in SH ati-driver-installer-8.29.6.run and pressed enter.
3. After walking through the installation ...
Running a x86 machine with glibc-2.1. Debian GNU/Linux
--> Selected OK
4. Selected "Installation Driver 8.29.6 on X.org 6.8.x"
--> Selected OK OK
5. Running a x86 machine with glibc-2.1. Debian GNU/Linux
--> Selected OK
6. Agreed w/the S/W license agreement
7. Selected the recommended (default) installation
--> Selected OK
8. Drivers begin to install.
9. Would you like to launch a web browser ?
--> Select No
10. There were errors during installation.
Errors are:
Kernel Module : Trying to install a precompiled kernel module
Kernel module : Precompile kernel module version mismatch
Error Kernel module : No kernel module build environment - please consult readme.

Please help. How do I install these drivers ? so that I can run xserver.

I am running on a Dell GX270. The ATI 9600 radeon card came with the dell.
Thanks.
