Installed linux from a live disk now i cant log on
I am FURIOUS I installed linux from a live disk. Now I went through all the nonsense to install and it tells me my user name and password is wrong. This crap is worse than windows. What gives?Dont tell me aboutwell maybe you used the wrong anything proper case etc,I did that all several times to NO avail! Can someone explain why I cant log on to my own computer?
That's a briljant introduction (seen that you've posted this in the Member Intro section)
If it's worse than Windows, use something that's better in your opinion.
OK, some help
Did you do any (non-standard) language selections during the install?
<alt><ctrl><Fn> (where n is 1..6) will take you to a console. Can you login there? Note that you will not see anything on the screen while typing the password.
<alt><ctrl><F7> will take you back to the graphical environment.
Is it Ubuntu (as in your profile)? Which version?

There is one NO too many in your reply
Do you mean that <ctrl><alt><Fn> does not take you to a console or that you can not login in the console.
In the first case your installation did go wrong somewhere (my guess), in the second situation you have forgottem your username and/or password (e.g. your caps lock was on by accident during the installation).
... it tells me my user name and password is wrong.
This is not a problem with Ubuntu, and it is not the typical experience. You may have had caps-lock on, or num-lock off, or something like that when you installed Ubuntu. Also, make sure you select the right language and region for your keyboard when you install Ubuntu, or any linux distro.
See this article to recover your user name and password: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword
Also remember that linux is case sensitive. Linux will consider: tom, Tom, and TOM to all be distinct user names for example. The same thing applies for passwords.
