Installation problems with Ubuntu

Hi,

I am trying to install Ubuntu 9.04 from dvd.I get so far into the installation at 56% it stops with an error Message Installation Failed. The installer encountered an error copying files the hard disk.
[errno 5] Input/ output Error

This often due to a faulty cd/dvd disk drice, or faulty hard disk. It may help to clean the cd/dvd, to burn the cd/dvd at a lower speed,to clean the cd/dvd drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from electronics suppliers), to check whether the hard disk is old and in need of replacement or to move the system to a cooler enviroment.

I've tried about 4/5 dvds rw's and I'm thinking it's the download that could be possibly corrupt?

I know its not the hard drive and theres nothing wrong with the dvd re-writer, that either means all the dvd's are dodgy, or corrupted download link.

I also know it's not the hard disk either because lst time this happened I installed Windows Xp without so much of a problem.

anybody got any ideas?

I only use dvd-rw's on my system, no problem.

Did you try to burn another cd, with another distro (puppy or tiny linux) and check?
Did you do the md5sum to verify the download?

I've haven't used the verifier, and wouldn't know how to use it.

I've have successfully downloaded linpus linux lite onto a dvd rw. And it worked fine, the only reason i'm taking it out is because I think it's only works with an acer aspire one netbook. I have a asus Eee pc 701Sd netbook, I can't find any drivers such as wifi or sound drivers.

ok, i've tried installing on both dvd rw and dvd r, both failed at the same point 56%. I know it's not the hard disk because I was able to install windows xp. It has to be a corrupt download.

I've sorted it. Bought the ubuntu user magazine which contained a free cd with ubuntu 9.04 on it, I've installed it and looks to be working ok. I've not really had time to sit down and have a play yet as I've been in and out allday.
