Install VLC

sudo apt-get install vlc

But

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
skype: Depends: libqt3-mt but it is not going to be installed or
libqt3c102-mt (>= 3:3.3.3.2) but it is not installable
Depends: libstdc++5 (>= 1:3.3.4-1) but it is not going to be installed
vlc: Depends: liba52-0.7.4 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libdvbpsi3 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libid3tag0 (>= 0.15.1b) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libmad0 (>= 0.15.1b) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libmodplug0c2 (>= 1:0.7-4.1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libmpeg2-4 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libtar but it is not going to be installed
Depends: wxvlc but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

Seems that you do not have all of the repositories that you should. You might want to make a sources list from this.

Or you could use the automatix script referencing the installation of VLC.

You can do a Google search for it or find it here.

Yep, enable the universe-mutliverse repositories and then
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install vlc

have you tried "apt-get -f install"??

a lot of the time that will fix the problem. It is caused by a package not being fully installed/removed
