From your other thread, you don't even have Ubuntu running yet...before you install a driver, you need to have Ubuntu up and installed first. And the error is very plain...you need to shut down the X server and drop to command-line only. Run "sudo telinit 3" from a terminal, then follow the instructions that nVidia provided. Typically, if you have the kernel headers installed you just need to execute the .run file you downloaded from nVidia, and it will compile and install the driver for you.
I was able to install Ubuntu and Lost windows.. if you see my last comment. Now only Ubuntu is running without graphics card. Let me try with telinit.
I did see your last comment in your other thread...the one where you said the only way you can get Windows to boot is to change the BIOS boot option. Indicating (again), that you are still running Ubuntu off the USB drive, and have not yet installed it. Otherwise, the GRUB boot menu would come up, with Windows and Ubuntu as choices there.
Again, until you actually INSTALL Ubuntu to your hard drive, installing the nVidia driver is pointless, since it will NOT install correctly to a 'live' USB image.
...and since GRUB is the bootloader that Ubuntu uses, and you don't have GRUB, what does that tell you?
And there is no USB attached and my laptop did not had any DVD drive and its running Ubuntu .. so what you call this?
Any way I did stop X Server and now Nvidia Driver get installed this time. The next this happen is I can see the login screen but when I enter the password I can only see mouse pointer. I did not know what it did but it did not workout. So I did installed Ubuntu 10.4 LTS.. It work get with installed. Showing me the Nvidia Driver Installed. But after insttalling(Activate) Nvidia Current Dirver same thing happen my UBuntu Crashed. No UI. and after boot its saying to recover old configration and showing same window.
So I reinstalled Ubuntu 13.10.
Still did not had NVidia Working from me. Ubuntu showing my Onboard Graphics Card
Thanks
Prashant
