Install Konqueror on Ubuntu (or equivalent browser)

Hello,
I really didnt care much for Konqueror whenever I had SUSE on my Laptop except for one thing the fact that it has a neat feature that allows it to be identified as other web browsers in order to overcome certain compatibility obstacles with certain webpages (the FAFSA website) is one of those.

I tried completing my application using Firefox, Netscape and Mozilla browser all using linux and could not do it.

then I decided to use konqueror browser (I changed it to be identified as MS Internet explorer) on my SUSE desktop and it worked.

Unfortunately I see that this is not a default browser in Ubuntu edgy so I would like to know how I can install it in on Ubuntu?

Please let me know how to do this as easy as possible.

You can install it using Synaptic or Aptitude:
Code:
sudo aptitude install konqueror
Obviously, the package manager will install parts of KDE so that Konqueror will run. If you would like the whole Kubuntu desktop as well, including Konqueror, then just:
Code:
sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop
I hope this helps

Vanilla Firefox doesn't have that ability, but you can easily install the User Agent Switcher extension to identify as Internet Explorer or something else.

I just ran across this and would like a clarification, if you would.

I am supporting the fafsa-online.com site, and I wish to be clear on whether you have a problem with the site that I am supporting.

Please enter the URL of the site that is giving you problems. I have been developing/testing fafsa-online fully with Linux (and I have browsed it with Konqueror), but your comment set my antennae to quivering and I would like to be sure we aren't talking about the same site.

Thanks.

Oh, and BTW...If you install privoxy, you can then modify the information you send out from any browser to be what you want it to be. This feature is built into konqueror but with privoxy you can do the same thing with any browser. Privoxy also provides a lot of other anonymizing/ad blocking/javascript annoyance protection as well.

Well here is the URL for the FAFSA site that I am talking about:

http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/FOTWWebApp/b....jsp?APPTYPE=R

once I press next I cant get to the login screen or anything.

The way I resolved this was by using the Agent switcher addon for Firefox, I then set it to mimic internet explore 6 and it worked great and had no compatibility issues after that.

Opera can also change it's browser identification, and has a lot more features than Konqueror.
