incorrect Permissions

When I log on to my computer, right after I type in the password it pops up this message:

Code:
Your $Home/.dmrc file has incorrect permissions and is being ignored. This prevents the default session and language from being saved. File sould be owned by user and have 644 permissions.
But when I go to /home/eastern/.dmrc (eastern is my username) the permissions for that file are 644. Does anyone have any Idea what I can do to fix this? Is it gnome or ubuntu's problem? If you were wondering what kind of computer this is happening on, It is my home-built on in my signature.

Just for kicks, have you tried to chmod 777 it? Or make sure that even though the permissions are correct, that you (eastern) are the owner (use chown)... Let us know if that helps or not...

I tried everything I could think of, changed the permission to 777 and made sure that eastern was owner, and it still didn't work. I even tried getting the file out of /root/.dmrc and putting it in my home directory (after I had backed up the one that was there) and changing the permission on the file from the root account to eastern, and it still didn't work. Anyone have any ideas? Could someone e-mail me a copy of your .dmrc file so that I could try replacing mine with that?

You're not the only one having problems, a quick google search turned these gem up:

http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/forums.asp?s=2&c=16&t=3543
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gdm-l.../msg00028.html

Overall, I'd attempt to make sure that the home directory is actually owned by eastern. type in "ls -l /home/eastern" and lets see if the owner is eastern or not. If not (and at this point I don't think it is) then "chown eastern:users /home/eastern"

Sorry if any of the syntax is a bit off, I'm posting from work on a windows box.

Thanks! Problem solved. All I had to do was chang the permissions for /home/eastern to 755 instead of 777 and everything works just fine now.
