i have a problem and i tried what was told here
(
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/nox) but i failed
it says
"In most cases, if you're connected to the internet, the commands given will use your internet connection"
and i am connected to the internet but it failed to connect saying "connection with xx.xx.something is failed"
the second alternative is the cd and i have
CD1....kubuntu 6.06.1 live desktop i386
CD2....ubuntu 6.06.1 live desktop i386
CD3....edubuntu 6.06.1 live desktop i386
CD4....xubuntu 6.06.1 live desktop i386
CD5....ubuntu server6.06.1 i386
and the reason why i chosen to install ubuntu server was because the rest of the CD's where too DAMN slow and when i chooseto install them it didnt work with all of them
could be because of:
My ram is 256 with shared memory 64MB which leaves me exactly 192MB so the ram might be facing difficulties in synchronizing
or
I burned them incorrectly although i did this (CD check) inside the cd and i didnt understand the existence of too many OK's except two at the last had a weird figure.
anyway i tried to do what was told in the article
it said
"If you don't have an internet connection but do have the Ubuntu Alternate Installer CD, insert it in your drive and type
sudo apt-cdrom add This will add the CD as a software package source since you can't get packages from the internet.
To make sure you have a graphical environment installed:
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install ubuntu-desktop "
and all of them failed i dont know what is going on i thought there is no need to ask someone in the forum and just reinstall the system but thinking of what i have faced during installment coz i was so afraid to lose my win xp and server 2003
and other data so i just by luck succeeded in installing i dont know if i could do it again.
The second thought was the heck with ubuntu and try something else but the main and most important reason why i chosen ubuntu was because it broked the phobia of losing and screwing things up coz it is so easy to setup and install so i love it.
So is someone suggests to burn another iso
so would he suggest an iso he trusts in it sending me a link to download it
and suggests the best way to download it either by torrent or (you name it)
and if someone suggests to try a different distro would he also guarantee the smoothness of installing it and i wish it would be on a single cd not more.
or
it would be appreciated if someone really helps me dealing with the current installed ubuntu server.
