I've pinged the site, and it's live, so the site's not down, but something has changed at the server source. It looks like they've moved their files around or something. You need find out if they have an updated url, or find a different repository.

Edit: sorry missed the fact that there are two repositories listed. The thousandparsec site seems to be active, so make sure you have your apt sources set up correctly. But the caliu.info site sends you to a parking domain page, so it looks like it's simply dead.

Support could have been removed

I'm having a similar problem with my Mum's Edgy installation. It would appear that support for Edgy has been removed, and the packages are no longer available from the http://*.ubuntu.com repositories.

Unfortunately I don't really understand how the whole apt system works so it's taking quite a while to sort out

Ignore me. I'm being an idiot. You're not on Edgy. You're not even using the ubuntu.com archives.

It's been a long day .

I have a different but related problem. I do not have a very small download limit where I am. I have downloaded updates to my machine but needed to reinstall do to a video problem(I tried to get S-Video working and now the system hangs whenever I try to watch video full screen)

Before I formatted the partition I copied all the .deb files from /var/cache/apt/archives to an external drive.

I then reinstalled and tryed to install the updates from the .deb files. This goes OK for a while but it seams to inevitably brake the system and I get a brocken package error. When I go to fix the error multaple packages have to be removed and I am worse off than before.(ie. terminal not working, no panel etc.)

I'm wondering what the cause for this could be and/or how I can fix this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rafttrip, I'd probably suggest creating a new top-level post as your query is quite different to this thread, this would get more people to look at your problem and help you out.

To solve the problem, I'd probably suggest downloading and installing a new version of Ubuntu, where the problems will hopefully be fixed without having to patch them.

Having details of your operating system (and preferably your machine spec) would also help a lot.
