Hyper Ugly X11 Font

I recently installed Kubuntu Breezy after using Mandrake for years. Mostly things work as they should, but for some reason most (all?) X11 applicatons use an extremely ugly, almost unreadable, font. After a lot of searching I haven't been able to find a fix. I suspect there's a very easy solution but I'm just too dumb to figur it out. (I really hate Linux font management. Mental block or something.)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried to to change the font settings via kcontrol -> appearance & themes -> fonts?

reddazz, sorry for the slow response. I've been out of the loop for a while.

Thanks for the suggestion. No, changing fonts in kcontrol doesn't solve the problem. The issue seem to be confined to appications that use X11, but not qt or gtk, if that's any help.
