Huge font size on log in screen in first boot
Hello,
I've been trying to install Kubuntu Edgy 6.10 for some time now. I've got a lot of errors, mainly problems with the vga -ati radeon x700 pro- driver (the default one didn't work and neither did vesa, so I used fglrx).
Now when I boot kubuntu, the login screen has a very huge font (as in the screen attached), I can get past this, but the desktop's font has the same size. When I change to TTY1 (Ctrl+Alt+F1), a screen appears -with a strange texture, no words nor letters- and it doesn't show what it should. (However, if I enter my login info and use the shutdown -r command, it does work, so it just doesn't show the interface).
One more thing, if I boot Kubuntu recovery mode, the font size is correctly displayed and I can succesfully log in.
Any idea on how to fix this, please?
kout

Definitely that is bizarre large text
Something definitely seems wrong with either the driver you are using, or maybe the font paths in your xorg.conf file. Not sure how this would happen, however you might try booting into recovery mode if that works properly, and copying out the xorg.conf file contents, then reboot into your screwed up system and compare the files. There must be some difference contributing to the situation.

Is the recovery mode's xorg.conf different than the normal xorg.conf? I've entered the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file (from the recovery mode) and the font paths were exactly the same as another kubuntu installation in a similar computer.
About the drivers: I have tried the vesa driver (it doesn't work correctly), the ati and the radeon drivers (can't get past the boot screen) and the fglrx (I get this error).

I can't do that -- when I change to TTY1 (Ctrl+Alt+F1), a screen appears -with a strange texture, no words nor letters- and it doesn't show the command line.

Maybe you can try adding
DisplaySize X Y
to the first "Monitor" Section of your xorg.conf, where X and Y are the width and height of your monitor screen in milimiters. If it doesn't change much, try very low values.
I hope this works, I can't come up with anything else. Greetz!

I've tried it with my monitor size and it didn't work. Then I tried low values (like 35 and 25) and nothing changed either.

Huge Font Size on Login
I have a regular 19" LCD and also a 37" HDTV. With the latest Fiesty 7.04 beta and with 6.10 I get this problem on my HDTV, but not on my 19" LCD. This is not a driver issue - it has to do with the screen dpi setting in KDE. I've logged in with my regular LCD and set the dpi in kcontrol to something like 96dpi and it seems to fix the problem.
What I would really like to know is if there is an easy way to change the dpi setting when running from the boot CD?

I tried with my brother's LCD and the font had the size it is supposed to have.
By the way, with this monitor (ViewSonic P75f+), I can't change windows xp' resolution to 1024x768, because the screen isn't shown properly (when I tried with my brother's monitor, it let me use that resolution). I guess it is a monitor's problem then...
Thank you everyone
