Sometimes when I plug in the Huawei E3372h USB modem, I can't access the Internet. Firefox is stuck in the "Connecting..." phase and even the web UI page of the dongle won't open. Network Manager says I'm connected and there are no unusual messages in dmesg or syslog. I have to restart my computer when this happens. I'm not using the drivers provided on the device.
Does anyone else have similar experiences? Is this normal?
I used a Huawei device like yours for three years,it worked well. However my internet service
is spotty and the device itself was not receiving the signal from my ISP. In those cases the
network manager would recognize that I was connected to the device, but the device itself could not connect to my ISP. Perhaps your situation is similar.
Did you install the software on the device before using it? When your device couldn't connect, did it connect later (when it got the signal) automatically or did you have to do something?
problemguy,
yours seems to be a fairly new huawei modem with LTE (4G).
usually, those come as mobile wifi hotspot devices (example).
in other words, your device seems somwhat non-standard.
the heyday of mobile dongles seems to be over; older devices usually "Just Work" on ubuntu & co., but yours might require additional research & setup.
btw, how can it be opening a web ui page? that sounds wrong.
My device sometimes works, but sometimes I can't use the Internet even though everything looks fine.

Many HiLink devices such as mine have a web interface for managing connections, looking at statistics, forcing the device to a certain network (4G, 3G), etc. It's supposed to open automatically when, or shortly after, the device is plugged in. This works on Windows, but I have to open it manually on Ubuntu.
