HP PSC printer not detected by Ubuntu

Hi everyone,

I'm using an HP PSC 2110 All-In-One scanner/printer/copier which worked fine under Mandrake 9.2 but Ubuntu can't seem to find it.

I have hplip, hpijs, and hpoj all installed and the services are running in the background.

When I go to Add Printer under Administration > Printers, it says that no printer was detected, even though when I run hplip 's "probe" utility in the terminal, it finds my printer. When I try to add a printer manually, my model isn't there.

How can I set up my printer?

I have a problem with Ubuntu's hpoj package. The current version and its predecesor do not work. If I download the source from linuxprinting.org and compile it myself, it works fine. The debian sid .deb also works fine in Ubuntu.

If you think the .deb from Ubuntu works, make sure you run 'ptal-init setup' from the command line and uncomment hpoj in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf. Good luck.

hmm I think it's a kernel problem. I downloaded the vanilla kernel at kernel.org and compiled it, then the scanning started working.
