HP Laserjet doesn't work with Ubuntu 10.04

Is anyone else having problems with HP LaserJets and Ubuntu 10.04?
I have a HP LaserJet 3015 and am running a dual boot with Windows 7.

Printer is automatically detected and works fine on: Windows 7, Windows XP, LinuxMint, and older versions of Ubuntu.

But when I'm running Ubuntu 10.04, when I try to print it just adds the job to the print queue and it never prints. After awhile I get a message saying that Ubuntu is unable to communicate with my printer. (or something to that effect). I can't even print a test page.

I have tried installing HPLIP following the directions given, but get the same behavior (can't communicate with the printer). I have tried unplugging the power cord and usb cable and plugging them back in (as per the directions I am following). But still not communicating.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Open your file manager, go to file system>>/etc/cups, right click on the folder named "ssl", select the option "open as administrator", there you will find two bad sym links, "server.crt" and "server.key". Delete them both and exit file manager. Then open your terminal and type "sudo /etc/init.d/cups start" (without the quotes), press Enter.
Hope this helps.

I am using also using Ubuntu 10.04. I have an HP 3015 connected through a USB port.

I am having the same problem. I tried deleting those files, and restarting CUPS, but I am still having the same problem.

CUPS found the printer right away, but it will not actually print.

If you have visited the link i posted and tried out all the options there, then i am as stumped as you are. Sorry i can't be of any more help.
I am using Linux Mint 9 which is based on the Ubuntu 10.04 kernel(HP Laserjet M 1005 MFP), and didn't have any problems whatsoever, just saying if you are new to Linux, you should give it a try, the interface is pretty much the same, everything works out of the box, driver installation too, is only a matter of point and click. This is not to say that Ubuntu is inferior in any way, but you may find Mint easier to use and perhaps solve your printer problems that way...

HP LaserJet 3015 & Ubuntu

I just figured it out. It happened to me with Linux Mint as well as with Ubuntu. In Linux Mint, the communication with my printer is broken when I install a level 3 update. The guilty package is "libusb-0.1-4".

Re-install Linux Mint, and be careful not to select the libusb-0.1-4 update. I'm not sure if the name is the same for Ubuntu.

You can also make it so that particular update isn't acknowledged any more. In Update Manager, Edit/Preferences/IgnoredPackages/Add then type in this package.

If I have to change my distro and/or reinstall the OS, every time I encounter some small problem like this, then CUPS is just more trouble than it's worth.

I will just use windows when I have to print something. CUPS sucks.

Why is this thread marked "Solved"" - my problem is not solved

I still can not get Ubuntu 10.04 to work with my HP 3015 printer. I have done everything suggested in these forums. My problem is not solved.

Could be that you have already installed libusb-0.1-4

I don't know how to remove an update once applied. Maybe somebody else knows how to do this.
