how ubuntu can be programmed to gather data serially or usb input
 

hi,
i am currently doing a project but haven gotten as far as i can the next step is giving me trouble. The next step is to work out how Ubuntu can be programmed to gather data from a serial (and possibly USB) input either on a timed basis or on demand.if anyone could help i would appreciate it.

From what type of device are you gathering data?
