How to set up Proxy on Ubuntu?

I'm a Slackware guy, but I have a friend/professor who's looking to set up a proxy server on his Ubuntu machine for a network security class. Basically, he's clueless as to how to proceed, and I have to admit that the documentation out there for using Squid confuses even me. If anyone has any pointers for doing this, I'd appreciate them.

Also, an answer that's a little more in-depth than "use the point-and-click tools" would be appreciated. Thanks!

There is a CGI script "squid-cgi" that lets you use your browser to query and administer squid. Also check out oops and tinyproxy. They may be easier to use. All are available with Synaptic.

That sounds good... I'll pass that on to the prof after break. Thanks :)
