Unhappy How to set default audio driver?

I've had this ongoing issue on my media center setup for a long time now using Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.

The PC is connected to an audio/video amplifier using HDMI.

On boot the audio driver always defaults to the PCs internal speaker.

I then have to intervene and manually select and assign the audio to HDMI.

How to configure the PC so the default audio on boot is the HDMI port?

Thanks

Bump:
The reply solved nothing, except to cause more frustration.

Is there anyone not tied to a search engine who can offer a solution how to have my desktop Ubuntu 18.04 system load the "HDMI/Displayport - Built in audio" at boot instead of always defaulting back to "Speakers - Built in audio"?
