Due to an unexpected shutdown of my computer, one of my .odt files has corrupted. Currently its size is shown to be 0 bytes. The file is completely empty. Anybody know it is possible to recover the file? Please let me know. Thanks in advance.
Open Office should prompt you for an automatic recovery when you re-launch the application if it can be recovered. That is the only way I have ever recovered documents with OpenOffice and it has always worked. If the file size is 0 bytes and you don't see a tmp file created your data is more than likely gone.
The automatic recovery didn't work. A tmp file was created, but couldn't find related file. I don't know why my data was gone so easily. Really no way to find my data?
You might try opening that tmp file with a text editor; there might be something salvageable there. Text editors will sometimes work when there are formatting errors that will keep a word processor from opening the file. Be prepared to wade through a lot of formatting gibberish to find the actual text.
If a previous version of the file was not saved before the shutdown, there may not be much more that can be done to save it.

There is no better solution to recover a corrupted ODT file except a third-party recovery software. I have also faced such situation in my past. After trying every possible steps to no avail, I looked forward for some third-party recovery software. I found SysInfoTools OpenOffice Writer Repair software best for me. I used its demo version first. I saw my original ODT file in preview session. Then I bought its full version and saved my recovered file. You may also check its demo version. It's free. Go and get it.
Regards.
