How to make dial up networking connection in ubuntu 15.10
Hi,
I am using Nokia C2-00.
I wanted to establish dialup connection between my mobile & my ubuntu system 15.10 via bluetooth.
I have tried in windows 7 and its working fine.
When i try to connect with DUN using blueman in ubuntu
I am getting either of the following error messages :
connection failed : Message recipient disconnected from message bus without replying
or
Connection Failed: Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/blueman/services/meta/SerialService.py", line 29, in connect
port_id = create_rfcomm_device(Adapter(props['Adapter']).get_properties()['Address'], props['Address'], 1)
File "_blueman.pyx", line 214, in _blueman.create_rfcomm_device (_blueman.c:2006)
Exception: Can't connect RFCOMM socket
I'm not certain what you're doing. I use blueman to pair my phone with my computer, but then I use Network Manager to actually establish a network connection.
If you're doing something differently, can you give us your step-by-step procedure?
I am trying to connect my mobile internet in Ubuntu via Bluetooth using dial up networking connection (DUN).
I tried plugging it in with a USB and set the phone to 'Suite' mode, then i got connection using network manager.
--------------
My Problem :
--------------
My mobile is getting paired successfully using blueman, but mobile's modem is still undetected in network manager.
--------------
My procedure :
--------------
This is my procedure for making DUN connection using Blueman :
1) Starting Blueman and pairing my devices and pairing is successfull.
2) Then when i go for DUn connection for paired device (Nokia C2-00), i am observing either of these two messages :
connection failed : Message recipient disconnected from message bus without replying
or
Connection Failed: Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/blueman/services/meta/SerialService.py", line 29, in connect
port_id = create_rfcomm_device(Adapter(props['Adapter']).get_properties()['Address'], props['Address'], 1)
File "_blueman.pyx", line 214, in _blueman.create_rfcomm_device (_blueman.c:2006)
Exception: Can't connect RFCOMM socket
Okay, you can start by turning "suite mode" off as that is only used for the Nokia Suite software.
Clear the pairing between your phone and your PC.
Set your phone's bluetooth to 'visible'
Now open Blueman and select "Setup New Device"
Follow the setup wizard through. (note: when I did this now, I got a different pairing code shown on blueman and by my system's pop-up messages. The system messages displayed the correct code.)
Now open your network manager. (there should be an icon in the tool bar.)
There should be a network option with the name of your phone. If that's not there, you may have to set one up.
To setup a new mobile broadband network do this;
you'll need to launch the nm-connection-editor, try atl+F2 to open a launch dialog and type 'nm-connection-editor'
Select 'add' to add a new connection.
Select 'mobile broadband' from the drop-down menu.
Now follow the wizard for your country and your cellular service provider.
Now there should be an option in network manager to connect to your phone.
Let us know how it goes.
P.S: some things have changed since I setup mine and I've upgraded to jessie since then. There may be some issues with a new connection that I can't test on my current system.
I tried as per your instruction, but still my mobiles modem device undetected .
I can see a device /dev/ttyACM0 as my modem , when i tried plugging it in with a USB and set the phone to 'Suite' mode.

1) connection creation is successfully by using nm-connection-editor, but when i try to up the connection i am getting the following message :
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# nmcli connection up 'Vodafone Vodafone Connect 1'
Error: Connection activation failed: No suitable device found for this connection.
#
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. When i try to connect DUN using blueman, i was getting following error msg in /var/log/syslog :
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nov 26 04:39:52 cholan kernel: [ 1659.222581] Bluetooth: TIOCGSERIAL is not supported
Nov 26 04:39:52 cholan kernel: [ 1659.223095] Bluetooth: TIOCGSERIAL is not supported
Nov 26 04:39:53 cholan kernel: [ 1660.126994] Bluetooth: TIOCGSERIAL is not supported
I have successful got connect to my mobile internet in Ubuntu via Bluetooth using dial up networking connection (DUN) using RFCOMM connection, without using Blueman.
