Question How to make a .deb package with a global directory?

I am developing a simple Dollars to Cents Converter for Ubuntu. I followed this tutorial but every time I uninstall the package it deletes "/usr/local/bin". I want to make a global directory where the program gets installed and accessed from anywhere. How do I pull this off?

Can you post the .deb? Or at least the contents of the .deb's DEBIAN subdirectory, which includes the control files and scripts?

I can't provide you any of that, I deleted the package and I can't build it any more. But it did delete /usr/local/bin when I uninstalled it because the package stored it in there. Is there a way of storing the files in a directory that the Ubuntu installation did not create so the computer can access from anywhere?

Uninstalling the package deleted the directory /usr/local/bin, even though the directory it contained other, unrelated items?

Did the .deb contain a script that deleted that directory?

If you want to make another try, and post the .deb somewhere, people here could check and see if there's something wrong with it that could explain the behavior.
