In linux, the command line is your friend, not something to be feared (although its power might be), so be prepared that many suggestions you get here will require you to use it.
First find out the exact model of your webcam, then find the driver it uses. then you either have to manually load the module, or install it through synaptics (gui works here :-D ). To find the model, the lsusb command is your friend.
