how to enable 3d effects in ubuntu

i have installed ubuntu 8.10 on my PC with following config: Motherboard Manufacturer ASUSTeK Computer INC. Processors / Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz Video Adapter Properties: Device Description SiS Mirage 3 Graphics Adapter String Mirage 3+ BIOS String 3.62.00 Chip Type SiS672 series XDuO DAC Type Internal Installed Drivers SiSGRV Memory Size 128 MB Video Adapter Manufacturer: Company Name Silicon Integrated Systems Corporation when i tried to install compiz for 3d effects(which i think is needed codec for all 3dd effects like desktop cubes etc), through properties of display adapter.. there isnt any adapter is selected.kindly suggest how can i install/activate all the 3d environments?? You need an accelerated graphics driver for 3-D effects and all that jazz.
I don't think there is one for your chipset ("SiS672 series XDuO") though. If you really want this sort of eye-candy, go out and get yourself an NVIDIA graphics card and then use their (proprietary) driver which you can download and install from their website: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us ATI graphics cards also have support for linux, and this is reputed to be getting better, but I'm still very happy with NVIDIA. what i did to enable the 3d effects is that i just installed the updates and that was all
