How to avoid pppoe connection automatically startup at boot time in UBUNTU?

Dear friends,
I just installed a copy of ubuntu 6.06 on my laptop.
And I normally use ADSL connection at home but not always. And I have set pppoeconf to start the connection at boot time automatically by mistake.

My question is HOW TO turn it off?

I have tried, but pppoeconf could not even detect my eth0 as candidate for ADSL connection. I guess that was because my ADSL connection was still active.
When I run 'poff', it said "/bin/etc/poff failed: /sbin/kill failed"

Code:
wim@internet-desktop:~$ ps -ef |grep ppp
root 17801 1 0 13:25 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/pppd call dsl-provider
wim 17987 5136 0 13:27 pts/0 00:00:00 grep ppp
wim@internet-desktop:~$ kill 17801
Run the given ps command and kill the highlighted value; this will be a different number in your case.

Next you should be able to run pppoeconf again.

Thank you very much indeed. I have successfully fixed it.
