From what perspective? Package base? Desktop environment? Installed size? Cost? Did you do any research before asking this question?

The first difference I see when I compare the two on Distrowatch is that Xandros apparently costs money. Another is that Xandros only is available for i386 (32bit x86 architecture) while Ubuntu can be on i386, amd64, and now PPC (that's old Mac I think, and maybe other machines based on PowerPC arch..) and yet another is that Ubuntu is GNOME desktop based, while historically Xandros had been KDE oriented, and now is apparently using IceWM.

Ubuntu can be run as a LiveCD. I don't know about Xandros, but there's a free 30-day trial you could download and have a look.

To compare further for yourself, I suggest loading the two following Distrowatch pages, each in their own browser window, and comparing them side by side:

http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=Xandros
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=ubuntu

If you don't have the info you want, after having looked there, try their respective websites & forums, or check out 2 of the 5 links to similar questions, at the bottom of this very page-- they're older, but may still be relevant.

Yes, I did research this, I was asking from a commands and packages available standpoint.

I ordered and eee laptop and it is coming with Xandros on it.

I appears Xandros is debian based, so I am assuming it will be at least some what similar to Ubuntu.

Has anyone here used both?

Yes, I like debian more because of A) the stability and B) the speed. I've found ubuntu to be bulky and sluggish but that's just me. Also PPC isn't really mac anymore, it's used in all kind of places. Xbox 360 uses the PowerPC design with the IBM Xenon. It's a very good architecture, infact so good that MS used it over Intel? BAM!

IMO I also dislike Ubuntu because of it's blatent use of bulk. =( stuff like pulseaudio? What!? No need four sound server!!! Anywho, Xandros should be very close to debian/ubuntu.

[edit]ERR Yes to your question.

Which Asus eee did you order? Chances are that Ubuntu will work on it. Ubuntu also has the netbook remix, which is specifically designed for netbooks:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UNR
Here is the netbook remix hardware support page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupp...hines/Netbooks
If you decide that you don't like the Xandros that comes on the eee, you could give Ubuntu or netbook remix a try.
