how much space does ubuntu need?
 

hi, i'm looking to try ubuntu, but since i've never used it i'm not sure how big a partition i should create... could you enlighten me please?? i'm gonna install breezy in order to get aquainted with ubuntu, but i do plan on installing dapper when it's released...

I'm using Dapper now, and I have KDE, Gnome, and XFCE all installed (the ubuntu-desktop, kubuntu-desktop, and xubuntu-desktop packages) and then some random other packages, too.

All of that uses only 3.5 GB of hard drive space.

hi, thanks for the reply... but do you know how much space a regular install takes?? i won't be installing anything extra (like kde, etc)... i just wanna do a regular ubuntu install...

I'd give it at least 2.5 GB.

cool, thanks... i shall give it 3GB then, to be on the safe side... i still have a few questions about ubuntu before i do the install, but they are unrelated to this thread's topic so i'll be opening some new threads if my searches come back empty-handed...
