How do i turn off monitor auto-detection
What is the option in xorg.conf to turn off monitor auto detection?

I'm trying to boot with my monitor turned off and it always comes up as 800x600 with no other choice, whereas if the monitor is on, it has lots of choices.

This messes up my plan to use it via remote vnc-viewer where I want it to have a larger screen resolution. I read a thread that said turn off auto-detection of the monitor, but I can't find out how to do that.

I think what you are looking for is disabling or ignoring EDID probing. Methods vary depending on graphics chipset/driver. For example, with nvidia’s binary blob driver, you use “Option "IgnoreEDID" "false"”.
