here's something you need to understand:
all screensavers under Xorg ultimately make use of some plug/extension thingy that is present in X itself.
XFCE does not decide which app is activated.
if there's no screensaver "plugged in", X willjust blank the screen following rules defined with 'xset'.
you can disable xscreensaver and use some app that plugs into that. these apps are almost as ancient as X itself: xss, xss-lock, xlock, xlockmore
here's what i have in my autostart files:

what the current settings are, and adjust them to your wishes.
