My bluetooth is a TRENDnet USB dongle.

What PDA do you have? I see you have Broadcom WiFi. You may need "ndiswrapper" and the Windows DLL to get that working.

Since the Aspire doesn't have bluetooth you could try TRENDnet's TBW-101UB Bluetooth USB Adapter -- less than $20. It works well on my desktop box. The level of available bluetooth features will be determined by the Windows software on your HTC. I have a Nokia N810 which in addition to OBEXftp I can see all the folders on my desktop. Windows may not be so feature rich, the Nokia is Linux.

You could try setting up an adhoc WiFi on the Ubuntu box. See below:

Fragos,

Are you telling me that the Bluetooth device will work through the broadcom wifi?

No, just that you consider using WiFi for file transfers as well. To be honest I prefer the bluetooth with my Nokia N810.

Since your laptop doesn't appear to have a bluetooth capability you'll have to buy a USB Bluetooth device like I did.

Ubuntu chose to start it by default to simplify the the use if and when present. WiFi support is also available even if not physically present.
