hotplug package not supported in 7.04?

Hi all,

i am trying to install a software package on my Ubuntu 7.04, and it fails with the message that the "hotplug" package failed to be built.

I googled a bit and found this thread in ubuntuforum:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205372

It says that the hotplug package is deprecated due to the usage of udev file system. A colleague of mine installed the software package successfuly on his Ubuntu 6.06.

Is it true that this happens due to the new support of udev filesystem in 7.04? I have to switch to 6.06 if it is the case then.

thanks for any answer.

Why would you need to use hotplug? udev is a vastly superior system.

Hi,

it was not me who require hotplug, but the software package which i am trying to install. it is an automatic installer BSP (Board Support Package) from Freescale. and it seems it doesnt work without hotplug.

so should i switch to 6.06?

thanks
