hibernate scripts

I have found in the official ubuntu packages the hibernate script but still i cant hibernate my pc

alaios@taksideytis:/usr/src/hello-2.1.0/src$ sudo hibernate
Your kernel does not have any recent Software Suspend 2 support compiled in.
Please follow the HOWTO linked from http://softwaresuspend.berlios.de/ for
instructions on how to compile Software Suspend into your kernel.
hibernate: Aborting.

Basically ... you downloaded the script for suspend2. Without recompiling your kernel to support suspend2 that script is useless.

www.suspend2.net --- suspend2 patches and how-to
www.kernel.org --- vanilla kernel download
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=43065 --- nice how to on compiling a kernel in Ubuntu.

Kernel recompiles aren't that rough, but I really wish they would just get this into the mainstream kernel! Anyway, if the suspend/hibernate built into Ubuntu isn't working for you, this is your only option.

Yes there is. I tried one of these kernels and it broke for me, but I was using the binary nvidia "nvidia" driver. If you don't know what I'm taking about, chances are they will work. I think the work around was to manually install (compile & install the binary driver [ http://doc.gwos.org/index.php/Latest_Nvidia_Dapper ] when running the newly downloaded dagobah kernel) the driver in the kernel. These kernels are for Dapper Drake.

http://www.ucc.asn.au/~dagobah/dapper-kernels/

Good Luck.
