Help with setting up monitor configuration

I am trying to fix my Laptop VGA output (which it is not working on normal Ubuntu 12.04 installation (from a while ago) But If boot with the life CD it works so I look a bit on the net and I could find that.

xrandr -q

Code:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192
LVDS-1 connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 194mm
   1366x768 60.0 +
   1024x768 59.9*
   800x600 59.9
   640x480 59.4
   720x400 59.6
   640x400 60.0
   640x350 59.8
VGA-1 connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm
   1024x768 60.0*
   800x600 60.3 56.2
   848x480 60.0
   640x480 59.9
HDMI-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
But I looked for etc/X11/xorg.conf

I cannot find it. I thought it would be easier to copy across the Xorg.conf file to get it working, but I cannot find that file in that folder. Do you know where is it? Thanks
