Maybe if you let us know whats wrong with kppp we can help you fix it. Kinternet is an alternative, but I am not sure if there is a package available for it in the Kubuntu software repositories.

Its not just for openSUSE (although it was originally developed by SUSE). It can be installed on any distro if you wish. Not sure if there is anything I can suggest if you are positive that your settings are correct.

I am not sure of where to get Kbuntu specific packages (or if anyone has bothered to make Kubuntu specific packages), but you can download the source rpm from an opensuse mirror. You would need to extract the contents of the src.rpm using "rpm2cpio package.src.rpm | cpio -dimv". There will be a tarball with the kinternet source code and you would then need to extract the contents and the ./configure, make and make install.

Well let's take a step back. Try opening Konsole and from there enter kppp. then try to log on again and let us know what error messages it gives you there. You might just need to edit a file or a config in the control panel of kppp to get it to connect.
One head's up. in debian based systems (like (K)Ubuntu kppp uses authorization by default and sometimes you have to edit the kppp file in /etc to reflect noauth.
So check the error messages and then we'll take it from there.
