i have installed on my machine ubuntu 6.10 edge
all a steps of installation passed without a probleme until the cd rom ejected but when the system rebooted an error appears on screen like this :

GRUB LOADING STAGE 1.5

GRUB LOADING PLEASE WAIT
ERROR 17
and no thing appears on screen

after that i reinstalled ubuntu and always the same error appear but in this case i have this one :
ERROR 18

please help me to solve this problem

Just a little note: Don't give your post a name like 'help me'. That doesn't help.

I have had similar problems with 5.10 Breezy. It didn't recognise the hard drive properly.
What solved it for me was resetting the BIOS.
Reboot your computer.
Press delete to enter setup.
Move to where it says something like 'optimised defaults' (Pressing F7 on my PC).
Set the BIOS to it's defaults.

That should get it to work.
(I reformatted five times before I realised the BIOS settings had changed. D'oh...)

Grub Error 17 is a common problem with Fedora Installs. I had a ton of problems getting around it. Try a Google search for a solution, there's a lot of hits on "Grub Error 17"...
