HDMI and Xubuntu 10

hello all. having some issues with my hdmi.

When i connect the cable, i see xubuntu on my TV. but its only a large portion of the screen, not all appears on the tv. the max resolution says 1280x720 and i cannot make it any higher?

Any ideas? what outputs should i paste?

There is no such thing as XUbuntu 10 - do you mean XUbuntu 10.04 or XUbuntu 9.10?
The issue is unclear from your description - do you mean that the whole xubuntu desktop appears on the TV, but only occupying part of the TV screen, or do you mean that only part of the desktop is displayed, filling the entire TV screen? Or some mixture of these two situations?

What is your video card? (lspci)
What is the max resolution supported by your TV?

How are you using the output - as a second monitor or as the only monitor?

If you use two monitors, like with a laptop, the default is often to use the higher resolution of the two monitors on both - which may result in the lower resolution screen not displaying the whole desktop. The quickie solution is to reduce the resolution.

For fancy stuff you want to configure dual head for your video card.

Xubuntu 10.04. So like i said, Xubuntu 10.
My whole TV screen is filled, but it isnt the whole desktop.

TV res i cant remember off hand. 2300xSomething. Windows didnt have a problem.

I cant change it to 2 monitors or anything. only 1 monitor shows in the display settings.

When i lower the resolution, the TV zooms in a bit.

When i get back home or near an HDTV ill get a screenshot. When you look at the desktop on the laptop its kinda like an overlapping wallpaper. You can see exactly what the TV shows on the laptop. Sorry if its hard to understand. lol
